I've been a vegan for about five years now. I was a vegetarian 2 years before that,but most of the vegetarians I've met end up becoming vegans or going back eating meat. The reason I stopped eating meat was that I didn't like how people keep killing animals. It's not that I'm an animal lover, but I have a lot of respect for the living things on this planet. I was a student at the time and now I'm an engineer and I have never regretted the choice I made back then.
