One Sunday afternoon last winter in December I decided to go with a friend of mine called Alex for a bike ride in our countryside. It was very cold. We were cycling along a country lane when we saw some children playing on a frozen pond, they were six and ten years old and they were playing with their ball.
Suddenly we heard a shout. To our honor one of the boys John had fallen through the ice because it was slippery and destabilizing. We immediately rushed over to help but it was too dangerous to wal across the ice and the boy was screaming and almost drowning. My friend and I ran to borrow a ladder from the neigborhoods, I put the ladder on the ice and crawled slowly acroos it toward the boy. He saw as, I caught hold of his hand and finally managed to pull him out the icy water. Luckily whe boy wasn't hurt, just very frightened.
His parents turned up about ten minutes later. When they saw him on the edge of the ice, full of water, they were shocked and very angry with him ! I felt a bit sorry for the boy. He has certainly learnt a lesson - the hard way.
