Germany - The capital of Germany is Berlin.
After the WWII when Germany was split into two, the communist Germany and the Federal Germany. Berlin was also divided into two: West Berlin that belonged the the Federal Germany and East Berlin, that was the communist capital of the country. Between the two parts of the town a high thick wall started to be built in 1961. At the middle of the wall it was the beautiful Branderburg Gate. For the citizens of east Berlin it was forbidden to go even close to the Gate and prohibited to go to West Berlin.
After 1989 the wall was demolished and finally the two halves of the town became one single town: a beautiful city, large, with beautiful buildings. The Branderburg Gate is an icon both for the capital and for the country.
