High, in the Andean mountains lies Peru`s most famous tourist destination: the Inca city at Machu Picchu. The paths leading to Machu Picchu are very high (around 4000 m), and the air has little oxygen. An American explorer discovered this city, in 1911.
The city was built in the 1400s, but no one knows exactly, why it was built. Do to the abundance of tourists who are visiting it on a daily basis, Peru expert, Dr. John Hemming agrees that a cable car could be a great help, but it also would ruin the beauty of the place, because, according to his opinion, a lot of the wonder of Machu Picchu is its isolation, so, man-made things aren`t supposed to be seen there.
