The Environment in the Maze Runners

The movie takes place in a glade but also in a maze. The glade looked like a normal place on earth. It had water, food, agriculture, huts and the weather was either sunny or rainy. The runners were a group of teenagers that had been chosen to run and find a way out of the maze. It was only the runners that were allowed to be in the maze, the rest of the people were only in the glade.

The glade was like any place on earth, but there weren’t 4 seasons, like we have on earth, instead there was only one season, summer. The glade was like a "safety base", but also an insecure place, because everyone thought the place was safe because they had food. I think it wasn't so safe because when the walls opened there may be a chance that the dangerous creatures comes from the maze into the glade.

The maze had big high walls, mechanical wall system that opened and closed the wall at a scheduled time. It has dangerous creatures behind the wall that are programmed and controlled by others.

I think that the idea with putting a group of young people in the maze was not to save them from a deadly virus, instead I think that they were there on a test to see how smart they were. Let's say they were there on a test, I don't understand why the runners would risk their lives in the maze. If they don’t get out from the labyrinth in time the walls would close. When the walls close, monsters and other dangerous creepy creatures wakes up on the other side, in the maze. So the chance to survive if they get stuck in the labyrinth are small.

All of the people's names from the glade were written on the high walls and when they died they drew a line over the name. When someone died, the sadness in the glade was unimaginable.
The maze was a symbol for life and death. If you left the glade you had to be brave, strong (both mentally and physically) and clever.

The setting is very important to the story because it makes you feel like you're in the story. You feel you're in the maze, running, solving different life decisions and being one of the runners. This makes you get closer to the story and lets you imagine what the place looks like.

If the setting wasn't with trees, meadows and forest it wouldn't give you that survival feeling, and it wouldn't be so exciting to read. If the movie isn't exciting to read you won't read the book, so the film need to have a good environment, to give you an image of how the place looks like. If the movie doesn’t have a good content that makes you get stuck in the chair, you will stop watching , because the movie is boring and maybe doesn't have a good setting that is on your taste. It depends what you like to watch fantasy, horror or fiction. I prefer adventure/fantasy, so I think this movie is in my taste.
