Cascada Cailor is located near the tourist resort Borșa, in the northeastern part of the Rodna Mountains. The water gathered in a glacial circus flows over a steep limestone called ˝Podul Cailor˝, in several steps, resulting in the largest waterfall in Romania. It is located at an altitude of 1300 m and the waterfall is 90 meters. The waterfall is accessible from several directions, from Borșa-Complex with chairlift, or on foot, or from the higher areas of the Rodna Mountains.
It is said that Mount Piatra Rea was the favorite place of those who live in the area to keep their horse studs from spring to autumn, the reason being simple: the pastures are beautiful and rich hard to see elsewhere thus, the horses could graze at will without being disturbed. But as the stories are not beautiful to the end, it is said that horse studs used to be attacked by bears, as they were hungry and looking for food in the meat of horses. As the place was open, the bear's chances of success were small. But the bear, being a smart animal, as it is also known, found solutions and cornered the animals above the precipice next to what nowadays is called the Waterfall of the Horses. Thus, being trapped in a cramped place, the poor animals had no chance and fell prey to the bear. Legend has it that the bear was chosen with a number close to 15 horses.
Since then, the locals have called this waterfall a horse, due to this legend. With this waterfall, the whole area was renamed, the nearby mountain receiving the name of Horse Mountain, the glacial circus also receiving the name of Horse Bridge. In order for the whole landscape to bear this name, the stream that drains into the valley is also called the Horse Spring.
