According to the World Tourism Organization, Mexico has one of the most developed sectors in the field of tourism. In 2005 it was ranked 7th in the ranking of the most popular holiday destinations around the world, receiving over 20 million tourists a year.

The most popular tourist spots are the Aztec ruins in the Mexico City area and the coastal resorts, the most famous of which is Acapulco. In the Yucatan, visitors are attracted by the Mayan ruins and the tropical climate and vegetation. Mexico, in Spanish, Mexico is located in the northern tip of Latin America, being bordered by the United States to the north and Belize and Guatemala to the south. Being a federal republic, the official name of the country is the United Mexican States.

      The capital of Mexico, Mexico City or Mexico City, is one of the largest metropolises in the world, a city characterized by agitation, noise, polluted air, green parks and palaces. The capital is the cultural, geographical and political center of Mexico, being built on the ruins of the ancient capital of the Aztecs, Tenochtitlan.

       

       UNESCO has declared two areas of Mexico City a world heritage site: the Historic Center where the historical and religious buildings are located and the Metropolitan Cathedral, one of the most impressive archaeological structures in the Western Hemisphere. The National Palace, hosts murals depicting the history of Mexico, the Palace of Fine Arts, hosts the most important events in the city, the construction combining art nouveau and art deco.

       Plaza de la Constitution, is the place where important festivals take place as well as a series of protests organized by the inhabitants, in the past being recognized as a monument of independence.

       

       Panteon del Tepeyac, is a cemetery where important personalities from the history of Mexico rest. Here are many souvenir shops, religious and folk art and annually on December 12 takes place the festival dedicated to the Virgin of Guadalupe, with dances, religious services, carnivals, attended by thousands of visitors.

 

         

       

         

        The main tourist attractions of the city are: divers on the Quebrada rock, Zocalo Square, Pie de la Cuesta Coast, Marquez Port, Alvarez Fort, the Traditional Christmas Procession and the Sinfonia Open-Air Theater.
