1) past perf. simple: [had + past participle]
Arata o actiune trecuta,petrecuta inaintea altei actiuni.
adverbe:when,till/until,before,after,as soon as.

Se folosescu cu :
a. by the time
ex: By the time the rain started,we had arrived.
b. hardly,harly,scarcely,no sooner (nici bine nu...)
ex: I had hardly entered the room when the phone rang.
No sooner had I entered te room than the phone rang.

2) past perf. cont.: [had been + present participle]
Arata o actiune care era in desfasurare de catva timp la un anumit moment dat.
adverbe: always, only, never, ever, still, just

Timpul asta e folosit in special cand vezi "all day/week long", care arata continuitate.
He was very tired. He had been working all day long.
