Dar Thomas a devenit foarte popular.Acest lucru l-a facut pe Henry sa intrebe furios (aici nu am inteles prea bine, asa ca nu stiu daca e ok.)' vor putea acesti oameni inactivi care imi mananca paine sa ma scape de acest preot problema (sau care cauzeaza probleme)?'
Cu greu a stiut ce a spus. Vorbele violente ale regelui au fost interpretate/intelese gresit de patru din cavalerii sai, care pe 29 decembrie au mers direct la Canterbury si l-au injunghiat pe Buket cu sabile lor chiar pe scarile altarului.Cand regele a auzut de crima, a devenit atat de disperat incat s-a incuiat in castel timp de 4 saptamani.Mai tarziu, el a mers la Canterbury sa planga/jeleasca la mormantul prietenului său.Asa au facut si alti oameni care l-au iubit pe Beket.
Trei ani mai tarziu, Beket a fost facut sfant si oameni din toate colturile lumii, faimosi sau necunoscuti au inceput sa viziteze mormantul.Inca de atunci, altarul lui Beket a devenit cel mai cunoscut loc din Europa.Catedrala Cant2 a devenit loc de pelerinaj pentru oamenii bolnavi care mergand acolo spera intr-un miracol si sa se vindece/ spera sa se vindece miraculos.
