This quote is one of my favourite quotes and the meaning of this one , by Alan Watts , is that our social environment has this power just because we do not exist apart of the society . Society is indeed , our extended mind and body , yet the very society from which the individual is inseparable is using its whole irresistible force to persuade the individual that he is indeed separate! When we see that our society is doing something we don't like , but to fit in we do it , that is kinda of the explanation of ,, extended mind " , and we do something with our body that we hate to do , but to not be hated by them , that's also kinda of the explanation of ,, extended body " .
