Helen rang two days ago  and invited us to the opening of her new exhibition which is taking place next Friday. She started painting a long time ago, when she was a young girl. By the time she and her parents moved here, she didn't have any friends. She used to stay in her room for long hours reading or playing with her dolls. One day, her father brought home some watercolours and paint brushes. At first, Helen was a bit surprised. She had never played with such things before. For the next few days she tried to paint the flowers and the butterflies in their garden. She soon became fascinated by what colours could do. Her parents did not pay much attention to her early paintings. It was only when a family friend expressed astonishment at the girl's 'doodles' that they became aware of her talent. A month later they took Helen to an Arts school and by the end of her first year there she had already had her first exhibition. Lately she has sold dozens of paintings. She is famous now and galleries all over the world make her tempting offers. Last year she was invited to exhibit in New York and Tokyo. Since then she has spent lots of time and energy on a special exhibition celebrating the 50th anniversary of her old Arts school. Helen a sunat acum două zile şi ne-a invitat la deschiderea noii sale expoziţii care va avea loc în vinerea următoare. Ea a început să picteze cu mult timp în urmă, pe când era fetiţă mică. Până în momentul în care ea şi părinţii ei s-au mutat aici, nu avea niciun prieten. Obişnuia să stea în camera ei ore în şir, citind sau jucându-se cu păpuşile ei. Într-o zi, tatăl eu a adus acasă nişte acuarele şi pensoane. La început, Helen a fost puţin surprinsă. Nu se mai jucase niciodată cu aşa obiecte înainte. În primele câteva zile, a încercat să picteze florile şi fluturii din grădina lor. În curând, a devenit fascinată de ceea ce puteau face culorile. Părinţii nu au fost prea atenţi la primele ei picturi. Abia când un prieten de familie şi-a exprimat uimirea văzând "mâzgâlelile" fetei, aceştia au conştientizat talentul ei. O lună mai târziu, ei au dus-o pe Helen la o şcoală de artă şi spre finalul primului an acolo, ea deja prezentase prima ei expoziţie. În ultimul timp, a vândut zeci de picturi. Este celebră acum şi galeriile din toată lumea îi fac oferte tentante. Anul trecut a fost invitată să expună în New York şi în Tokio. De atunci, şi-a sacrificat o mulţime de timp şi energie pentru o expoziţie specială de sărbătorire a celei de-a 50-a aniversare a vechii ei şcoli de artă. Sperăm că va fi un alt mare succes pentru Helen şi totodată un eveniment pentru orăşelul nostru.
