The Earl of Shaftesbury lived a long time ago. He tried all his best to do good to people in need.
Many boys and girls had to work hard at small ages and face many drawbacks. For example, the little chimney-sweepers had to sleep on a bag of soot and they didn`t have the chance to clean themselves very often. The Earl told the Parliament this problem and a new law appeared - to save the little chimney-sweepers from hard-work.
The Earl also noticed that little children work into mines or factories, so the Parliament passed a law prohibiting letting young kids to work in such places.
On those times, animals were badly treated, especially donkeys, so the Good Earl gave prizes for the best-kept donkeys. Also, if the people ha no barrow to use, he offered to lend them his.
The Good Earl once made a strange meeting, only with thieves. He wanted to make out of them honest people. Some of them were very happy to start a new life and be honest humans.
At the Earl`s death, the people were very sad. He would never be forgiven for his great actions.
