this is a short story of how Rosemary had brought to her home a young lady that asked her money for a cup of tea. when this girl walked in Rosemary's house she was about to faint, being dazed with the warmth of the house and the splendid scent. rosemary took her on a chair and asked a servant to bring them tea. later, after the guest stopped crying and wiped her tears, while they were serving a cup of tea, Philip, Rosemary's husband came home and saw Mrs Smith, the young lady. he asked his wife about the new lady and who she was, so his wife told him how she picked her up,and said that she would take care of her. among other things, while they were discussing, Philip said that miss Smith was pretty. after that, rosemary went in her room, did her make up, added some jewels and then took some money for Miss Smith. she went and gave her the money and shortly after she returned to the library, where her husband was. she started the conversation by asking him whether he allowed her to buy this little box she had seen previously, and finally she asked her what was really on her mind : she asked him if he thought she was pretty
