Mihai Volontir - one of the greatest Moldavian actors
Mihai Volontir was a famous Moldavian actor performing in theatre plays and films. He debuted as a film actor in „Looking for a Security Guard” („Se caută un paznic”) in 1967, playing the role of Ivan Turbincă.
His fame grew especially after his role in „The Gypsy” film series, the character Budulai having such an impact on the audience that the gypsy communities started to be more tolerated in Russia.
Mihai Volontir is considered as one of the most gifted actors in Moldova Republic. His celebrity is not only due to ambitious and populаr characters, but especially to his natural talent, humour and charm transposed in his roles.
The day of his funeral, September the 17th, 2015, was declared the Day of National Mourning in Moldova Republic, in gratitude and commemoration of the great actor.
