An antique item is a Morris Chair, made, I believe, of cherry wood. It has broad, strong arms with many turned spindles connecting them to the wooden seat, which has a cushion on it . The legs are large, thick turned wood legs, able to support a lot of weight. The back rack has a cushion and a rod that enables the adjustment of the back for different angles of reclining. To hold the back at the chosen recline angle, the brass bar (with end pieces kind of like a giant q-tip) fits in one of three positions at the end of each chair arm, and the back rests against it.
This chair is at close to 100 years old.It was purchased it in an antique shop in Morrison, CO, in the mid-1960s.
Morris Chair —$25.1966. Cushions smashed and mismatched. It was heavy and sturdy. The chair is indestructible, striking in its appearance. The back rack folds down flat on the seat, so the space needed is cut in half.
