Braila is an old settlement on the left bank of the Danube, appearing with the name "Drinago" in an old geographical description and Spanish travel, "Libro del conoscimiento" (1350), but also on some Catalan maps (Angellino de Dalorto, 1325 - 1330 and Angelino Dulcert, 1339). It is mentioned that Brayla in 1368 in a privilege of transport and trade granted to the Brasov merchants. The city was occupied by the Turks in 1538-1540, being (rays or kazaas) from 1554 until the end of the Russian-Turkish war of 1828-1829, during which it is called Ibrail. In the fifteenth century, the name of Braila was mentioned in the form of Breil, in a mention of the Voivode Chancellery "Ttibor of Transylvania". The period of maximum flowering dates back to the beginning of the 20th century, when it is an important port of entry and exit of the Romanian goods. It is accessible to small and medium sized ships. The old town is located in the area bounded by the Danube and the current street of the Union (the former fortress), which follows the route of the former city wall. After the return of Wallachia to Wallachia in 1829, the Russian occupation authorities decided to withdraw the urban plan, which meant the settlement of the new streets in the form of a semicircle, each street starting from the Danube and stopping on the Danube. This is how the Cuza Voda, Independence and Dorobantits Avenues, as well as the streets of Plevnea, Rahovei, Grivitza and Stephen the Great present. In fact, Braila is one of the few cities in the country that has kept street names unchanged for the past 130 years, and these names have not changed even during the communist era. The city also retains many of the nineteenth-century buildings unchanged, being a true architectural reservation for those interested.
