My life during lockdown

The only thing you can expect from life is life to be unexpected. There are certain times when one asks themselves “what would I do if...”, but they never think it could happen. People like to prepare for different scenarios but are always surprised when they actually happen and, ironically, caught unprepared. Nevertheless, these situations have a silver lining: what is evolution, really, if not humanity overcoming such difficulties?

A situation such as the current one affects both communities and individuals. Life has changed dramatically in the last month, since we entered lockdown. I, for one, miss the outside: I miss the spring sun dripping on the freshly bloomed flowers and I miss feeling the gentle breeze through my hair. I miss my friends, I miss seeing them and hearing them laugh. I even miss school. I miss sitting in my desk and being lulled to sleep by the voice of my teacher after I spent the night studying for a test and I miss the breaks when I’d make jokes with my classmates. It is said that you never miss something until you let it go. And apparently is it true.

Nevertheless, as I said before, every cloud has a silver lining. I now have time for myself and for my hobbies. I have time to play and time to spend with my family. Without pressing deadlines or never-ending schoolwork, I can truly relax and do thing I love. I have grown so much since lockdown started, that I will be another me when I will get out.

“Normal” is a subjective term. I do not believe life will turn back to its normal course, not the normal we knew before. There will be a new kind of normal, maybe a better one. A normal where people will enjoy the sun a little more, where people will enjoy their friends a little more, maybe. The thing I look forward to most is sitting on a terrace of a cafe with my friends, just enjoying the time spent with them, and not take anything for granted.

As for lesson I’ve learnt during these times, I think the most important one is to be grateful for what I have, as I do not know when it could all go away. I’ve also learnt that the “show goes on” no matter what, and in one way or another we will survive, being able to adapt to our surroundings. And last but not least, I’ve learnt that you can find a silver lining everywhere, it all depends on how you relate to the problem.

In conclusion, everything that happens shapes our world. We (luckily or unluckily) had the chance to witness the world changing in front of our eyes. I cannot wait to see what these new world, new life and new normal have to offer and experience them to the fullest.
