I expect my friend to be devoted to me. Devotion is being dedicated to one person. I expect my friends to be devoted as in be honest, nice, I expect them not to talk behind my back, I obviously do it in return.

First of all, friendship is a something two people have to work on. It is not enough for one person to be dedicated to maintaining ( a intretine) a friendship if the other person does not feel interested. I devote myself to my friends because that's how healthy, long relationships are formed. I expected to be treated with respect and support and I do that in return. I help my friends and they help me back when I need.

So, yes I actually do it in return because otherwise the friendship would not work and it would end badly.
