Moldova, also known as The Republic of Moldova is Romania's neighbour in the West and its capital is called Chisinau. It has lots of beautiful natural landscapes, and because it is close to Romania, their customs and traditions are very similar to our.
In winter, the children go to door to door and sing carols in exchange for treats (candy, apples, nuts, or money);
They also go caroling for New Year's, wishing everyone a happy new year, full of prosperity, wealth and health.
They also celebrate Martisor, where they hand on their clothes two knitted white and red ropes, symbol of nature's revival.
For Easter they cook Easter Cake and paint eggs in colourful patterns. 
And let's not forget wedding traditions: on their wedding day, the bride and groom go to their parents and ask them for forgiveness for all the bad things that they've done. Another tradition is for the bride to go to the closest water source, usually a fountain, fill a bucket with water that's been decorated with basil. The basil is dipped into the water and used to spray the guests. In some regions of Moldova, only the girls are sprayed, as it is believed that they will get married sooner.
