Rezumat:

The character in the story tells us about one of his two memories of the Llandaff Cathedral School. This memory of his dates all the way back from when he was only nine years old. He had made some friends that he used to pick up from their homes on the way to their school. After the classes were ready,they would all form a group and head back home, but not before stopping at the candy shop that was in their way. Using their pocket money, they used to get about a pennyworth of different types of candy. The narrator tells us that this candy shop was his and his friends’ ‘special place’. He has described it as being ‘the very centre of their lives’. Aside from all the pros it had, there was only one drawback. The owner of the shop, Mrs Pratchett, was a human being drawn from a horror film. She’s been described as being a small and skinny ‘’old hag’’, rude and,most important, she looked like she hadn’t taken a bath in a long-long time. Regarding the character’s point of view, the worst part of her lack of hygienical routine was that she would put her unwashed hands into the candy jars and then serve sweets to the clients with all the dirt and grime clunging on them.
In the end,it is mentioned to us that during those times there were very few health rules and Mrs Pratchett was the least likely person to follow them. Moreover, as a concluding statement, the narrator said that neither him nor his friends would give up on the sweets, no matter the given circumstances.
