Hi Maria,
Sorry I haven't been in touch for such a long time but I've had exams so I've been studying most of the time. Anyway, our class has just carried out an unusual experiment in science class. I am so excited to tell you all about it.
I say unusual because our experiment was to find the best brand of paper towel. The hypothesis was that expensive brands of paper towel are no stronger than the cheap brands. So to test it, our teacher used a long PVC tube - with holes drilled in it every 2cm.
We also had a steel ball-bearing. We then put the tube vertically, and we took a sheet of paper towel and using an elastic band, clamp it over one end of the tube. Then we could push the ball bearing into the one of the holes in the side of the tube and it would drop onto the paper towel from a measured height.
We recorded the highest drop point at which the ball bearing would tear through the paper. We did 10 tests per towel. The result was that more expensive towels are indeed stronger. Can’t wait to do more experiments. Maybe we’ll try some product testing when we meet again. Looking forward to hearing from you!
