Cerință: Trebuie să rescriem propozițiile date, așezând adverbele din paranteze în ordinea corectă.

În limba engleză, ordinea generală a adverbelor (adică dacă nu vrem să punem accent pe un adverb anume) este:

• manner  (mod) - De obicei, la sfârșitul propoziției. Câteodată, se pun la mijlocul propoziției, dacă adverbul nu este partea cea mai importantă sau dacă obiectul este foarte lung.
• place  (loc) - De obicei, la sfârșitul propoziției. Câteodată, se pun la începutul propoziției, mai ales în scris.
• time  (timp) - De obicei, la sfârșitul propoziției. Câteodată, se pun la începutul propoziției, dacă vrem să accentuăm adverbul.
• duration  (durată) - De obicei, la sfârșitul propoziției.
• frequency  (frecvență) - De obicei, la mijlocul propoziției, dar pot fi puse atât la început, cât și la sfârșit. Adverbele: always, ever și never nu se pun de regulă la început.
• degree  (grad de comparație) - Adverbele: really, very, quite se pun de regulă la mijlocul propoziției. A lot și a bit se pun de obicei la sfârșit.
• focusing  (de „concentrare”, care pun accent pe un anumit lucru) - De obicei, la mijlocul propoziției.
• certainty or obligation  (siguranță sau obligație) - Unele adverbe se pun la mijloc, precum: probably, possible, certainly. Altele, la început: maybe, perhaps.
• viewpoint  (punct de vedere) - De obicei, la început. Câteodată, la mijlocul propoziției, în scris formal.
• evaluative  - De obicei, la sfârșit.

12. She unexpectedly turned up at the party looking terribly annoyed.
13. The studied hard all morning in his bedroom.
14. She carefully looked at her reflection in the mirror for ten minutes.
15. The children sit and play happily in their room for hours.
16. He sadly waved goodbye to his friend at the airport.
17. The old boat slowly sailed through the water into the harbour this afternoon.
18. He ran to the hall down the stairs to quickly answer the phone.
19. She lazily sat by the fire, reading a book all day.
20. He nervously looked out the window to see if anyone was there this morning.
