Am văzut The History Boys la Teatrul Excelsior, pe 13 decembrie anul trecut. A fost una dintre piesele invitate la Festivalul Naţional de Teatru 2015, dar reprogramate din cauza doliului naţional în urma tragediei din Clubul Colectiv. Ţin minte că am ajuns la teatru în fugă, într-o seară întunecată şi friguroasă, aproape nervoasă că aveam piesa în programul oricum extrem de încărcat şi haotic. Ba chiar cochetasem toată ziua cu posibilitatea de a nu merge, pur şi simplu. Pe scurt, m-am aşezat în sală cu 30 de secunde înainte să se deschidă cortina, fără pic de entuziasm. Şi s-a deschis cortina. Cu cea mai antrenantă, veselă şi amuzantă scenă pe care am văzut-o vreodată în deschiderea unui spectacol. Am uitat instant de tot ce exista în afara teatrului, am râs după primele 30 de secunde din piesă, am intrat în atmosferă şi am rămas acolo timp de 2 ore şi 45 de minute. Ceva incredibil, pentru un spectacol cu o durată de aproape 3 ore, să te ţintuiască în scaun, să te facă să îţi ţii respiraţia, să îţi pară rău că sunt 12 personaje pe scenă şi că nu poţi cuprinde mereu cu privirea pe fiecare dintre ele, să râzi, să plângi, apoi să râzi iar, în hohote, împreună cu restul publicului. Pe scurt, a fost o bucurie rară şi o surpriză neaşteptată să văd o interpretare atăt de proaspătă, un decor atât de inspirat şi aerat şi costume atât de potrivite şi coordonate cu spectacolul şi cu decorul.

Titlul complet al spectacolului montant de Vlad Cristache la Teatrul Excelsior este The History Boys. Poveşti cu parfum de liceu. Un titlu în română şi engleză, aşa cum şi spectacolul în sine s-a desfăşurat şi în română, şi în franceză şi în engleză pe alocuri, fără subtitrare şi fără să deranjeze, sau măcar să fie sesizabilă trecerea de la o limbă la alta, pentru spectatorul cult. Un Esperanto cultural care a vorbit cu sufletul, nu cu cuvintele.

I have seen ''The History Boys'' play at Excelsior theatre, on December 13 last year.It was one of the plays invited at the National Theatrical Festival 2015,but it was rescheduled due to the national mourning caused by the tragedy that happened at the ''Colectiv'' club .I remember arriving at the theatre at the last moment,on a cold and dark night,almost angry because I had this play on my already chaotic and busy schedule.I almost convinced myself with the posibility of simply not going.Briefly,I took a seat 30 seconds before the courtain opened,without a glimpse of enthusiasm.And the courtain opened.With the most entertaining,joyful and funny scene I've ever seen in the opening of a show.I've instantly forgotten about the existence of anything besides the theatre,I've laughed after 30 seconds of the play ,I've gotten into the mood and sat there for 2 hours and 45 minutes.It's something quite incredible for a play that lasted for three hours to glue you into your chair,to make you hold your breath,to pity the fact that there are 12 personaes on the stage and you can't isee them all at once.To make you laugh,cry,then burst out laughing again,along with the crowd.To be short,it was a rare joy,an unexpected suprise for me to watch such fresh acting, such an inspired decor and costumes so carefully coordinated with the play ,but also with the decor.

The complete title of the show mounted by Vlad Cristache at Excelsior Theatre is The History Boys.Stories with a highschool scent.A title in romanian,but also in english, as the play itself happened in romanian,but also in english and french  here and there,without subtitles or disturbance,without a distinguishable transition between the languages for the cult crowd.It was a cultural Esperanto that spoke with the soul,not through words.
