It was the end of July and the six-week school holiday had just begun. James watched the weather forecast after the news in the morning and he was happy that it was going to be a windy day, a perfect day to go to Stewart Park to fly the kite his grandmother bought him for doing so well in his end of year school report. James’ mother thought it was a splendid day to be at the park too and decided to join him with his sister Leanne early in the afternoon for a picnic. James couldn’t wait so he rode his bicycle to the park and as soon as he arrived at his favourite spot, he took his kite out of his bag and attached a ball of string to it. When the time was right, James ran with the kite across the park as he had done on numerous occasions with his old one. He gradually released the string and the kite glided beautifully in the sky. After sometime, the kite flew higher and higher in the sky. Standing for over an hour, James decided to sit on the grass while he allowed the kite to fly freely above the park. When he looked around him, he wasn’t alone! A group of people of different ages joined in to watch his kite. They enjoyed it so much, they wanted to know where he had bought his kite and how he flew it. James was pleased with all the attention he got from the people. It was a lovely way to spend the first day of his holiday!
