I admire Marie Curie. She was a Polish scientist. Marie Curie was born in poverty, in Warsaw, and due to her poor condition, as well as her gender, she had to bear many harsh challenges in her life to become a well known scientist. She was the one to discover polonium, which she named after her country, as well as radium.
She championed the use of radium in fundamental medicine and changed our understanding of radioactivity.
Her work helped save many lives, since she discovered that radium destroyed diseased cells faster than healthy cells, and so radiation could be used to treat tumours.
