Advertisements can bring good and bad things upon the world.
On the pro-advertisement side, they give the ability to consume content without acually having to pay for it.
Further more, it benefits the certain item being advertised.
However, in recent times, the best ads(i'll write it shortened 'cause I'm lasy) for a particular person have started to be seeked by online content providing sites by violating their users private space and as the old saying goes: If you're not paying for it, you are the product.
Not only that they use your information for such things, they also use it to make you stay on the website as long as possible, despite if you don't acually enjoy it which, is also to make you watch even more ads.
Oh, yeah, and they'd also sell it to others.
If you're asking yourself if what they're doing is acually legal then I would tell you that, they're not breaking the law.
When you sign up for these sites, they'll ask you to agree on some stuff written it text which would most likely be skipped by the avrage person.
