The lake is of karst origin and is part of the Nerei Gorge National Park, located in the Anina Mountains, on the Beu River Valley, where it meets the Beuşnita River.
From Steierdorf it is possible to start on the route that passes from Sasca Română to Ochiul Beiului. The road takes about 4 hours, but it is definitely worth the effort. In the opposite direction, starting from Sasca Română, you can reach the lake on a two-kilometer-long route up to Podul Beiului, and then follow a 7-8 kilometers route.
Those who manage to reach the end of the route will be given a fairy tale scenery. Situated at an altitude of 310 m, in a "crater", the Beige's Eye has a depth of about 3.6 m and a total diameter of 15 m. The water of a green-blue color does not freeze even in winter due to the spring that supplies the lake always with water. Here many birds find shelter, and on the bottom of the lake can easily see trout.
The image of the lake is a fairy tale that hypnotizes. Clear water gives the impression of a static mini-ocean, and the surrounding vegetation complements the natural picture of the story.
