The museum complex Old Orhei is situated in the valley of the Prut, a tributary of the right bank, the municipality Trebujeni from Orhei Moldova. Cultural-natural reserve Orhei which has a special status and is the most important cultural site in Moldova, being in the nomination process for entry in the World Heritage List of UNESCO. The complex includes several dozen hectares of the medieval city Orhei (sec. XIII-XVI), later named Orhei (data and foundation settlement after leaving another place a new city with the same name - Orheiul today). In the complex includes two headlands (over and Butuceni), which joins three adjacent promontories smaller (Potarca, saltpeter and Scoc), on whose territory the ruins of fortifications, dwellings, bathrooms, places of worship (including monasteries cave) both from Mongolian period (sec. XIII-XIV) as well as Moldovan (sec. XV-XVI).
Orhei is a complex system composed of cultural and natural: Natural Landscape archaic, biodiversity, archaeological framework exceptional historical and architectural variety, and originality ethnographic traditional rural habitat.
