The Chisinau Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova is the main research structure in the field of botany in the Republic of Moldova. It was founded on September 1, 1951 by T. Gheiderman [citation needed] (its director in 1950-1964). The current director is Dr. Alexandru Teleuță. Change History One of the main arteries in the garden. Systematic botanical research in the Republic of Moldova began in 1947, when they were led by collaborators of the Botany Sector of the Moldovan Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the U.R.S.S. The respective sector was reorganized, on July 31, 1950, according to a Decision of the Soviet of Ministers of the R.S.S.M., in the Botanical Garden. In the autumn of the same year, in the city of Chisinau, on the valley of the Durlești River (current Dendrological Garden), a plot of land with an area of 74 ha is allocated for the construction of the Botanical Garden. Collections and exhibitions of plants were created in 1950–1964. [1] On September 27, 1965, the Soviet of Ministers of the R.S.S.M. allocates, on the southeastern outskirts of Chisinau, a new land, with an area of 104 ha, for the design and construction of the current Botanical Garden of the Academy of Sciences of Moldova. The new territory included 24 types of groundwater soils. The design and construction works were carried out under the leadership of academician Alexandru Ciubotaru, who worked as director of this institution for more than 32 years. On July 1, 1975, the Botanical Garden of the Moldovan Branch of the Academy of Sciences of the U.R.S.S. receives the status of scientific research institution. ȚiŃ, A. Fiodorov, N. Smolskii, A. Grodzinskii; professors S. Sokolov, P. Lapin, L. Rubțov and others. [1] As a result of the heavy snowfall in April 2017, about 80% of the decorative trees and shrubs that are part of the garden's collections and exhibitions have perished or been damaged.
