If air pollution is the symbolic image of rainforest trees, water pollution is likely to be considered the "black tides", that is, the continual pollution of the world's seas and oceans with disastrous effects on flora and fauna marine.

Major oil pollution incidents are always involved. The usual washing practice of oil tankers is equivalent to eight to 20 million barrels of oil per year that would deliberately float in the oceans. This practice, spread all over the world, often unnoticed, is now detected by satellites and the guilty can be sued.
