Bran Castle, located in Romania, is a national monument and landmark. The castle was built in the 13th century by the Teutonic knights, and later became a royal residence for the kings of Hungary, Queen Maria of Romania and her husband, King Ferdinand I, from 1920 until their deaths in 1947. Bran Castle was the inspiration for Bram Stoker's novel, Dracula. It is known for its unique architecture and is a popular tourist destination.  The castle is situated on the border between Transylvania and Wallachia, on a cliff , in the Carpathian Mountains. This castle has been the site of many historical events, including the Battle of Bran in 1462. Bran Castle is open to the public and receives over 600,000 visitors each year.
