Before you have an animal, you need to make sure that you spend all your time with it. If you do not give him affection, he will suffer. He doesn't have to be racial as long as he's your friend.

These creatures can be considered pets or wildlife given the care they're under, if they're being cared by humans they fall under the category of pets if not they fall into the category of wildlife or stray animals.
Pets are less likely to be agresive and more likely to obey their owners. (there indeed are exotic pets but I won't be covering this part)
Wildlife or stray animals are more likely to either attack, ignore or run away from humans and are much harder to train.
