Ca și în limba română, pronumele relative se folosesc pentru a lega o propoziție de un substantiv sau de un pronume.
Cele mai frecvent folosite pronume relative sunt:
who - pentru persoane
The boy who is in the shop is my friend.
whom - pentru persoane (însoțit sau nu de prepoziții)
The teacher to whom you adressed those awful words will have a discussion with you later.
whose - pentru persoane (formă de posesiv)
Our grandmother, whose meals are so tasty, is waiting for us tonight.
which - pentru obiecte
The story which describes the sunset is amazing.
that - pentru persoane și pentru obiecte
The book that you were reading yesterday is not so good.
The child that they took to the cinema didn't like the movie.
