A shoemaker had become poor enough to only be able to make a single pair of leather shoes.
He commended himself to God and went asleep only to find the next morning, to his surprise, the pair of shoes completely finished and looked better than any pair of shoes. According to this, a customer soon came and he bought the pair of shoes, paying for them more than the usual price.
Then, the shoemaker has enough money to buy leather for two pairs of shoes. He cut them out, and said that he'll finish them the next morning. In the morning, it happened the same thing as in the first day. The shoes were already done and the shoemaker received, once again, more money than he expected.
And so it continued, until he became a wealthy man.
In one evening, shortly before Christmas, just before going to bed, he proposed his wife to stay awake and see who was giving them a helping hand, and she agreed.
At midnight, two little naked men appeared and did all the work, then disappeared, running away.
The next morning, the shoemaker and his wife thought about making the two little men some clothes and shoes because they were naked and it was cold outside, and also because they wanted to show gratitude to the little men for helping them out.
At midnight, they came as usual, expecting to see the cut-up leather and beginning to work. Instead of the leather, they saw the little clothes. At the beginning they seemed puzzled but then delighted.
They received the clothes happily and put them on.
Then they hopped and danced out of the house.
They never returned, but the shoemaker prospered further, succeeding in everything he did.
