Traian Vuia was born in 1872 in the village of Surducu Mic (part of the former commune Bujoru, today Traian Vuia, Timiș County) from (former county) Caraş-Severin, formerly in Austria-Hungary, now in Romania. His parents were the priest Simion Popescu and Ana Vuia; this being his second wife. He attended primary school in Bujor (today Traian Vuia) and Făget. Between 1884 and 1892 he attended the Roman Catholic High School in Lugoj. In Lugoj he spent a lot of time in the middle of Coriolan Brediceanu's family, who will advise, help and encourage him later in his career.
