On Sunday, I went with my friend to the cinema to see a movie. I bought some popcorn and he bought a bottle of water. I told him that I didn’t thought that he is on diet and he giggled. We sit on the chairs an we wait patiently for the movie to start. I crunched the popcorn in between my teeth and he takes a slurp out of his bottle of water. That was a memorable and funny night.

We must admit that manners are learned from an early age and a certain behaviour in society is practically your business card. These are simple and generally accepted rules that should be part of everyday life. As we wash our hands after eating, as we brush our teeth in the morning or comb our hair. When these rules are ignored, situations become hilarious, rude and sometimes even offensive. Take for example the case where someone is invited to a restaurant. The two sit at the table and order from the menu. The waiter politely presents the wine list and the guests choose an assortment. The waiter brings the bottle of wine and pours it into glasses. How do we proceed? We elegantly approach the glass and appreciate the aroma and taste of the liquid. We do not slurp loudly, nor do we clap (smack) our lips/tongue. The discussions at the table are at an acceptable level for those around us, we do not laugh out loud and do not gesture with the cutlery on the table. We are allowed to giggle when something amuses us. If we ordered toast, we would not grind large pieces and crunch like rodents to show everyone that we have healthy and freshly bleached teeth. Fizzy water has the property of decarbonizing after being poured into a glass. We do not bubble with the straw to restore its freshness. Otherwise, we try to have a civilized behavior, in normal parameters and not to become a topic of discussion for the other guests in the restaurant or waiters.
