What is a hero? Who is a hero?

As far as I can see a hero is someone who does something that helps/improves or saves others, My idea of a hero is surely far more different than others, do we not call a person a hero until after they have done something that we see or hear about? There are our everyday heroes, the military, the police, fire department personal. Then there are the people that see something that is really bad and still try to save lives regardless of their own safety, as well as there are the silent people that go to work every day in spite of massive hardships and danger, like doctors and nurses and those that work in dangerous conditions

WHY do we expect too much from our heroes?

Because we make them out to be something they aren’t (without flaws). When you hold someone to such a high level of respect and to be put on a pedestal of sorts, we are bound to see their shortcomings and realizations, that they aren’t perfect, either! They are like everyone else- only human and they too make mistakes.

It’s not confined to heroes. We’re both exceedingly judgmental and exceedingly forgiving, but on a transactional basis. We seem to have an infinite capacity to expect 1000% flawlessness from those so called "heroes".

No one is perfect. Often what makes people heroes in one aspect of life makes them dysfunctional in others.

More often than not. I think we expect a great deal from our heroes, as well as our loved ones. I think the majority of people try to do the best they can, but after all we are human. It is nice to have high expectations, but frequently it isn't realistic.

I do not expect anything from any of these people, before or after their daily work, they owe us nothing other than what they would normally do. Calling someone a hero is our single way of acknowledging a person or group for going out and beyond for what is necessary.
