you tell us about the fi rst time you went white-water boating?
Miss Hedge:
— Well, the fi rst time I went was two years ago. Th ere
were eight of us. We met at the river, and spent the day
checking our things and the boats. We had to tie everything
down. It rained most of the day. We camped that night by the
river. It was very quiet. I was a bit nervous, but I fell asleep at
last, and woke at dawn. We had to start early. It wasn’t sunny,
and the air was cold, but it wasn’t raining. We had breakfast,
packed up the tents, tied everything down.
Th e Reporter:
— Why did you tie everything down?
Miss Hedge:
— Well, boats do sometimes turn over in the water. Anyway,
the fi rst few miles were easy. Th e river was slow and the
water was fl at. Th en the river went faster, and I suddenly saw
some white water in front of me. We tried to stop the boat but
the river was too strong. I was terrifi ed.
Th e Reporter:
— Why were you so frightened?
Miss Hedge:
— Well, water was pouring in and it was impossible to
see or hear anything, because the noise of the water was so
loud. Th en suddenly we saw the other boat. We crashed into
them, and two of the people in the boat fell into the river.
Th ey disappeared. Everyone was shout ing, but you couldn’t
hear what they were saying. At last, the people in the water
appeared. One of them came near our boat, and we pulled
him in. We left the white water and got the boat under control
at last, and looked for the other boat. Th ere was no boat,
and nobody.
Th e Reporter:
— What did you do?
— Not an easy way to begin. Now, tell me... (fade out)
Miss Hedge:
— We had to go back to look for them and we found
them at last. Th at was my fi rst time in white water, and I
wanted more!

Miss:
Pai, prima data a fost acum 2 ani. Eram 8 persoane. Ne-am intalnit la rau si am petrecut ziua verificand lucrurile noastre si barcile. Trebuia sa desfacem totul. A ploat cam toata ziua. Am petrecut noaptea aceea la rau. A fost foarte liniste. Eram putin nervoasa, dar am adormit pana la urma si m-am trezit la răsărit. Trebuia să începem devreme, nu era însorit și aerul era rece, dar nu ploua. Am luat micul de jun, am strâns corturile și am legat totul la loc.
Reporter:
-De ce ați legat totul la loc?
Miss Hedge:
-Păi, bărcile uneori ajung mai departe in apă. Oricum, primii km au fost ușori. Râul era încet și apa era plată. După râul a fost rapid, și dintr-o dată am văzut apă albă în față. Am încercat să oprim barca dar râul era prea puternic. Eram îngrozită.
Reporter:
-De ce erai așa speriată?
Miss Hedge:
-Păi, apa intra înăuntru și era imposibil să vezi sau să auzi ceva, pentru că sunetul apei era foarte tare. Dintr-o dată am văzut cealaltă barcă, ne-am lovit de ei, și doi oameni din barcă au căzut în râu. Au dispărut. Toată lumea striga, dar nu puteai înțelege ce spuneau. În final, oamenii au apărut din apă. Unul dintre ei a venit aproape de barca noastră, și l-am tras înauntru. Am plecat de la apa albă și am reușit să ținem barca în control până la urma, și am căutat cealaltă barcă. Nu era nici o barcă, si nimeni.
Reporter:
-Ce ai făcut?
-Nu e un mod ușor de a începe. Acum, spune-mi.
Miss Hedge:
-A trebuit să mergem înapoi să îi căutăm și i-am găsit până la urmă. A fost prima dată în apa albă, și voiam mai mult.
