i am a 6 grade student. In the last year I have pretty much only gone to school online. I’ve drawn some conclusions, some about positive aspects, while others about more negative things which require dealing with.
First of all i will focus on the positive changes that happened during online school:
I had more time for myself, to study and have fun, and I couldn’t have been in a more comfortable location than my own house for that. Those 30 minutes to go to school and 30 minutes to come back were gained for myself. During the online classes I could learn easily because my teachers made their classes more interactive. One very important thing, the tests. From my point of view tests are easier when you go to school online, because I have my familiar surroundings, my comfortable chair and my comfortable room. I want to say that during the online school I evolved into a better me and a better student.
Now I would like to move on to what could be improved, not necessarily for me but for students in general. Some students from more isolated locations do not have proper access to internet. I would suggest that the ministry would either invest in some tablets or some phones (which they have), but also add some subsidised mobile data plans, or let’s face it, in some remote villages where there are not more than 40 people I think that they could open schools because the interaction is at its highest between 9-10 students. I think that it would be nice to create a complete TV channel about school. With clear information focused on subjects and grades, this would easily benefit students everywhere, even in the most remote areas. Also, some schools could start youtube channels and upload daily lessons . It either can be pre-recorded or a live stream so people can ask questions. Of course, all depending on the grade and the level of the students. If you ask how to check the homework if everything is on youtube or on other social-media apps, it is very easy. Either use Google Classroom or other free apps where students can turn in their assignments.
It is not my favorite subject but we have to face it. The worst part during the online school?
We haven’t had regular interaction between us in over a year. The only face to face interaction is when students invite each other over to their homes. Also, some students devolved due to the fact that we haven’t been physically at school. For some kinaestezic classes, such as P.E. or music, it is harder to have proper progress, due to lack of space, equipment or instruments at home.
With this speech I wanted to show you online schooling through my eyes, so you could analyse a 6 grader’s point of view. Maybe you feel the same, maybe you don’t, but lets agree on one thing: we all know, along with the advantages, come many negative aspects which need to be addressed.
