The Greeting

    A greeting is a way in which human beings intentionally make their presence known to each other.

   A greeting can be used when passing by someone or when it has the purpose of starting a conversation. It s important to great, because if not, you may seem rude. To greet someone you can use nonverbal ways (gestures), such as smiling, shaking hands and waving, or verbal ways (words). They can be formal or informal. Some examples of words that express greetings in the English language are: good morning/evening/afternoon/night, hi, hello, hey, how are you?, etc.

   You should pay attention at how you greet in some other countries, because it s easy to make a horrible mistake. For example in Tibet people stick their tongues out in order to greet and in Maori people press their noses together.
