CHAMOIS
The animal has a height between 110 and 130 cm, has a short tail (maximum 8 cm) with 75 cm height at the withers and weighs between 30 and 50 kg. It has a relatively short body, muscular legs with cloven hoof, a relatively long neck finished with a short head provided with two horns in both sexes ring and bent to back. Behind horns are two glands that secrete sticky liquid mating period malodorous. In summer chamois color is pale reddish brown, lower body is yellowish white, with a black stripe on the back. Winter goat color is dark brown, dark brown, the white belly and legs, head is white to yellowish on the head with a dark stripe.
The animal lives in groups of 15 to 30 goats composed of young and female goats. This social structure changes depending on the season. Summer is always a guard animal to give the time in case of danger alarm. Winter this surveillance is less severe, groups led by a goat, and can be mixed together. In November is the mating period, as the end of May to the first litter of kids falling until early June. The gestation period lasts 6 months to chamois, kids become mature at the age of three years and a chamois can live between 15 and 20 years. Their food consists of rosehip Alpine buds of deciduous or coniferous and offshoots, leaves of different plants, moss or lichen winter goats consume. The dangers facing the chamois are rockfalls, predators as lynx, wolf, bear, eagle and here you can remember and organized hunts humans.
