I have to say....Cluj is wonderful. It's a neat and tidy, lively, bustling city, with well stocked shops (and some designer ones), bars, resturants - pretty much all the things you'd find in any western European city. Yes, it is still a liitle shabby in places, and down side streets and in residential areas things are in need of repair etc, but the city is doing its best to tidy up. Around the city centre pavements and roads are repaired, gardens are maintained, buildings are being painted and new ones going up. It (apparently) is more western than other Romanian cities (and looks it), which is in part due to its location up in the north east of the country, closer to the rest of Europe than Bucharest. The large student population also helps keep the city up-beat and trendier than other places. If you want to vizit Transylvania, feel free to come to Cluj, You won't regret it!
