London, the capital of England and the United Kingdom, is a 21st-century city with history stretching back to Roman times. London has numerous museums, galleries, libraries and sporting events. These include the British Museum, National Gallery, Natural History Museum, Tate Modern, British Library and West End theatres. The London Underground is the oldest underground railway network in the world. Leisure is a major part of the London economy, with a 2003 report attributing a quarter of the entire UK leisure economy to London at 25.6 events per 1000 people. Globally the city is amongst the big four fashion capitals of the world, and according to official statistics, London is the world's third-busiest film production centre, presents more live comedy than any other city, and has the biggest theatre audience of any city in the world

It is situated on the River Thames and it is the biggest city in middle Europe and the world's largest financial centre.

Here is also the world's first underground railway system, London Underground. It started running in 1863 as the Metropolitan Railway.

Most people in London are British but there are also immigrants from many different countries.People who visit London as tourists may see the famous "Sights of London". These sights include Big Ben, Buckingham Palace, Natural History Museum,  Tower Bridge, Nelson's Column in Trafalgar Square.

London is one of the most important cities for business and politics.
