There was an Italian girl born in 1820, named Florence Nightingale. She was one of the first nurses. Women couldn’t attend universities or have a career back then. She was born to a wealthy father who cared about his daughters education. He taught them a few languages.
When Florence was 25, she had the idea of being a nurse. Even though her parents wouldn’t want that, she followed her dreams. Florence convinced them to support her decisions, and her father let her study as a nurse. She studied in different countries for a few years until she started working in a hospital for women. She managed to heal thousand of soldiers that fought in wars, with a little help from some doctors. Florence improved sanitation and did a good job dealing with her patients. The soldiers gave her a nickname, “The lady with the lamp” because she was always watching and making sure the soldiers were okay in the nighttime. Florence became a successful nurse and she even wrote a book to help other nurses. She opened a nursing school and gave women the ability to have a normal job.
Florence suffered from poor health and she achieved being a professional nurse. She even met Queen Victoria and got an award for the good she did. Florence lived a long life and died at 90 years. She truly is a remarkable person in the nursing history. Florence Nightingale has achieved her dreams.
