king Nebuchadnezzar is believed to have built the Gardens of Babylon as a present for his wife, Amytas, in 600 BC. No evidence had been found by archeologists until recently that the Gardens existed at all. For a long time, it was believed that the greek poets had made the gardens up. They are not mentioned by Babylonian historians at all. Archeologists discovered the remains of the Palace of Babylon a few years ago and now huge walls have been found which may have been built as part of the gardens. The walld have been grown 75 metres above the ground by the ancient babylonians. Today the ruins of Babylon can be seen by visitors to modern Iraq though only a stone lion remains to the glory that was babylon.
