Să ne reamintim că, atunci când în propoziţia principală avem un timp trecut, în propoziţia secundară vom avea tot o formă de trecut în funcţie de raportul de:

- simultaneitate: She was looking at the beast with awe and was not able to open her mouth.

- posterioritate: After we had bought the present, we left for Mike's place.
