To the UN,
I have been informed about the fundings there are going to be made for the developement of health education programmes in Moldova. That is a very good decision and the amount of money you offer is decent. With 10 million dollars, we can do very much to help the young people of this country.
I am very aware of the problems that teenagers are confronted with nowadays, like poverty, being bullied at school, the use of drugs, even hunger, health problems or the fact that some come from very poor families or have none.
But I think one of the issues concerning teenagers and children in Moldova which should really draw your attention is the fact that an improvement in health education is needed.
I think there should be implemented a series of certain enhancements in the way young people are taught about how to maintain their health. This is where you should invest a significant part of your funds. The youngest one is advised on how to stay safe and healthy, the better those advises will be followed. That is where the change should start. Teenagers need to be persuaded about the true importance of that fact in order to make them realise it is for their own well being.
There are some ways to achieve this goal. In schools, in such programmes, you could also offer items of personal hygiene, like toothbrushes, toothpastes, soap, shampoo. Personal hygiene is very important in maintaining a good health. Basic medication could be included.
For children with special needs, you should offer a discount for their medication or provide it free. That would really help those who need it.
I believe that where there is will, there are chances to make the change happen. This is where you should invest: in kids. They are the future. We cannot have a sick population in tomorrow`s society.
