It was an incredible experience. I spent four months in a high school in Beijing. I chose China's capital city because I wanted to go somewhere very different. Wellington, the capital of New Zealand, has a population of 200,000, while Beijing has a population of over 20 million!

Before I left home, I was worried about the new language and culture. I remember that I felt very nervous when I said goodbye to my family.

My host family in China looked after me really well. I ate all kinds of new food, I saw some wonderful places and of course I made a lot of new friends.
