Most of us go to movies for entertainment. To the film marketing and advertising experts, however, a movie is just a product which needs to be sold like any other.
The process begins with the print media. Print advertisements have become more sophisticated over the years. Creating a film preview is slightly different than producing a printed ad. While a reader can simply flip the page of a magazine or newspaper, “trailers” or short clips buy sixty seconds of time for the advertiser in front of a captive audience. Clips can easily become memorable. Who could forget the picture of a small boy in E.T. madly pedalling his bycicle while flying through the air?
All types of movie advertising, no matter what the form may be, have one goal in mind: to entice the viewer into the theatre. To that ends, ads must have impact. They have to create an immediate interest. Impact, then, is the name of the game in selling the movies- creating a memorable impression.
