The power of a vaccine

Vaccination is one of most cost effective healthcare interventions. Millions of children lives and not only, were protected from the suffering and disability associated with diseases such as pneumonia, diarrhoea, whooping cough, measles, and polio.

One of the things that vaccines make possible is the eradication of disease.
So far, we've eradicated one human disease, smallpox, and we are really close with polio. That's only possible through the use of vaccines and requires everybody to use them for the whole world to benefit.
Vaccines, contain antigens that interact with the immune system and often produce an immune response like that produced by a natural infection, but without having the disease or its complications. Many vaccines provide long term protection against disease by producing immunologic memory similar to that which develops after having the natural disease.

In my opinion reducing mortality is already reason enough to want to have every child on this planet vaccinated. Vaccines are the miracle of science and technology, making commonplace diseases a distant memory.
